_JOIN US AS A B_TOUR FESTIVAL VOLUNTEER!
Taking a B_Tour is like going on an adventure in your most familiar environment.
B_Tour is a platform which examines current needs of urban life and explores how art can be used as a tool to find possible answers to these needs. We curate, commission and develop artistic guided tours in urban environments which are a new hybrid form of public art. Those projects provide locals with a new perspective of their city and an opportunity to experience it differently. B_Tours refer aesthetically and in their use of media and new communication technologies to our urban habits and lifestyles.
The tours are lead either by the artists in person or the artists’ narrations in the form of audio tours, instruction guides/texts or maps through different neighborhoods. Tours presented in the festival encompass engaging ways of intervening public spaces and relate to the cities’ social/cultural/geographical fabric. The festival is particularly oriented toward projects that challenge us to rethink our everyday relationship with the urban environment.
The idea of establishing a festival exploring the format of guided tour as an artistic strategy emerged in 2012, and the first edition of B_Tour Festival took place in Berlin in summer 2013. Over the past two years B_Tour has been presented twice in Berlin and once in Belgrade, Serbia. Artists from 19 countries have shown over 40 individual B_Tours to more than 1200 festival visitors.
This year the festival takes place in two German cities: in Berlin (26-28.06) and in Leipzig (2-12.07).
During the festival we will need the assistance of about 10-15 volunteers for each city plus a number of volunteer photographers. The activities our volunteers carry out are extremely important and valuable for us - it is hard to imagine the festival without your helping hands!
To apply to become a volunteer at B_Tour Festival please to read the information below and register using the application form. To find out about becoming a B_Tour photographer please read the job description at the bottom of the page; if you're interested please contact samantha.penn@b-tour.org for B_Tours Berlin and jana.nowak@b-tour.org for B_Tours Leipzig.
What will volunteers do?
During the 3rd edition of the festival volunteers will have the opportunity to engage in various tasks. Each of the volunteers shall be assigned specific responsibilities in connection with one of the following:
Volunteers will work according to a fixed schedule, under the direction of the Coordinator.
From the volunteers, above all, we expect engagement and a responsible approach towards the assigned and accepted tasks – you need to take them seriously – but don’t let it stop you from having fun and enjoying the festival along with other participants and artists.
Volunteering during B_Tour Festival gives you the opportunity to actively participate in this young and dynamically growing project. For those who would like one, we issue an official certificate confirming the work they did at B_Tour Festival, including information on the scope of the services they provided. Each volunteer is also invited to participate in the events included in the program of the festival. Participation in these events is done in their free time and under certain conditions:
* Tasks at the Festival Office / Center will include:
- selling tickets - issuing reservations - giving information about the tours and festival in general - managing our online ticketing system (Eventbrite) - answering emails and phone calls regarding the ticketing system - helping to set up the space for the discussion panels
* Assisting the artists at the beginning of the tours will include:
- waiting for the participants at the meeting point - taking participants to the actual starting point of the tour (due to the theme of this year’s festival - periphery - many tours will start in remotely located areas) - helping with the technical stuff (handing over mp3s, headphones or mobile devices and collecting them afterwards) - assisting participants in setting up the software (if needed) - taking care of the lists of attendance - selling last-minute tickets - giving information about the tours and festival in general
In Berlin we plan to organize three meetings with volunteers on the following dates:
- 17.06 1st group;
- 19.06 2nd group;
- 22.06 final meeting with all volunteers before the festival.
In Leipzig we plan to organize three meetings with volunteers on the following dates:
- 17.06 1st group;
- 19.06 2nd group;
- 25.06 final meeting with all volunteers before the festival.
Please save the dates!
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions - send us an email, or use this contact form.
We are looking forward to receiving your applications and getting in touch!
