B_Talk#1 reflects on this year’s festival theme: ‘periphery’. The terms “center” and “periphery” are conceptual constructs denoting not only geographical but social, economic and cultural formations. Representatives of artistic and academic institutions will illustrate the challenges these conceptual constructs bear and present their approaches to creating new and thought-provoking conceptualizations of contemporary spaces. Which are their approaches to the problematization of the terms “periphery” and “center” and why is this extremely relevant to every and any city inhabitant?

B_Talk#1 ist dem diesjährigen Festivalthema gewidmet: „Peripherie“. „Zentrum“ und „Peripherie“ sind Begriffe, die sich nicht nur auf einen geographischen, sondern auch sozialen, ökonomischen und kulturellen Kontext beziehen. Experten aus Kunst und Wissenschaft werden, ausgehend von ihrer Arbeitserfahrung, über die Herausforderungen im Zusammenhang mit diesen Begriffen berichten und Ansätze teilen, wie neue und innovative Ideen zur Schaffung gesellschaftlicher Räume aussehen und umgesetzt werden können. Was sind ihre Herangehensweisen für die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit den Begriffen „Peripherie" und „Mitte"? Und warum ist das so relevant für jeden und alle Städter?

Museum tours, “underground” or “alternative” tours and traditional sightseeing have become common day practices in most urban environments. This panel will investigate the more nuanced effects of tourism on the city. How does tourism and touristification impact spaces, people and local culture? B_Talk #2 will look at the ways in which tourism can become a more sustainable practice and what could be the role of artistic interventions in redefining and challenging touristic practices.

Neben Sightseeing und Museumsführungen gehören inzwischen auch „alternative” Führungen zum touristischen Standardrepertoire vieler Städte. Dieses Panel wird die Auswirkungen untersuchen, die Tourismus auf Städte hat/haben kann. Wie prägen Tourismus oder ‘Touristification’ den öffentlichen Raum, die Anwohner und die lokale Kultur? B_Talk #2 ist insbesondere der Frage gewidmet, wie Tourismus nachhaltig gestaltet werden kann und wie künstlerische Interventionen touristische Praktiken herausfordern und neu bestimmen können.

Decisions surrounding the development of the city - how buildings look, how they are arranged, how to get from one side of the city to the other and who has access to different spaces - are largely in the hands of so called “grown ups”. For children and adolescents, life in the city is about adaptation rather than construction. This panel will consider ways in which young people shape, change and reclaim the city and will lead a discussion on how adults can learn from, and support the young, with intergenerational contributions from a variety of projects.

Fragen der Stadtentwicklung – etwa wo Gebäude entstehen oder wie sie aussehen sollen, wie man von einem Ort der Stadt an einen anderen kommt oder wer Zugang zum öffentlichen Raum hat – werden in der Regel von sogenannten „Erwachsenen” entschieden. Kinder und Jugendliche dürfen nur selten ihre Stadt mitgestalten - in einer Stadt zu leben, heißt für sie eher Anpassung als Mitbestimmung. B_Talk #3 zeigt Möglichkeiten auf, wie junge Leute ihre Stadt prägen, verändern und erobern, aber auch wie Erwachsene sie dabei unterstützen und von ihnen lernen können. Zu Wort kommen verschiedene Generationen aus lokalen Initiativen.
