Helwes and van Goudoever will give a performative lecture about their work, including a mini sound walk and the opportunity for a discussion afterwards.
Audrey Helwes and Rosa van Goudoever make sound walks, using the individual places as their main subjects. They don't tell a story about a place, but rather let the audience experience a well-known place in a different way. During their sound walks the place is temporarily stripped of its original function, and its non-functional aspects are experienced intensely. Through the use of ambient noise, the specific characteristics of the place are magnified. The audience members walk with the interior monologues of the creators, and effortlessly supplement the walk with their own thoughts and feelings. Thus, different perceptions of a place come together.
One of the topics they are dealing with is the sound of space. Ambient noise and the acoustics in spaces influence our state of mind. Something that all of us are affected by daily, but are rarely aware of.
Their recent work “Slowtime” makes us feel what it is like to see the world around you go faster while you take time to look around and zoom in on what you see and hear. Helwes and Goudoever let you experience this on their mini sound walk.
