OpenCity – Belgrade provides an opportunity to become temporarily and playfully out of step with the momentum of the city.
In response to the changes resulting from the convulsions of global capitalism, as well as those we face simply as a consequence of our being social animals. OpenCity seeks to redefine our engagement with our everyday lives and the spaces we occupy.
Participants will be provided with an ipod containing a soundscape, featuring material relating to the sites through which we walk, as well as evoking other times and places.
In addition instructions will be given inviting participants to perform synchronized discreet public actions. OpenCity collective actions have been performed by groups in various cities around the world.

_author / guide:
Andrew Brown has engaged in solo and collaborative projects involving sound, text, film and performance since the late 1970s. He is a Senior Lecturer on the interdisciplinary Fine Art course at Nottingham Trent University and the writer of ‘Trial: a study of the devising process in Reckless Sleepers' Schrödinger's Box’ published by University of Plymouth Press.
Andrew founded the project Open City in 2006, inspired by a chance event witnessed in a city square in which several (presumably unconnected) individuals began to run in different directions at the same moment. Everyday urban behaviour has since been observed, sampled and released back into environments across Europe, North America and Japan.
